Hi, I'm Jim. My full name is James Robert Porterfield. I'm the second child and oldest son of James Robert and Delphie D. Porterfield (Mom passed in March of 2004.)

Yes, my dad and I have the same name, but they didn't put "Jr." or "II" on my birth certificate so I don't use either of them. My dad goes by "Bob," I go by "Jim." BTW - My dad has been preaching since 1949 and is still the pastor of a church. As of this writing, he has been preaching for over 65 years!

I've been involved in church and church music since I was very small, having sung solos in church while still in grade school. As a teen, I started singing in the adult choir. From that time to this I have been involved in worship leadership in some form, either as a choir member, as choir director, as praise team member, or as worship leader.

I developed a strong interest in how things work at an early age and spent a great deal of time taking things apart and trying to put them back together again.  I had a special interest in electronics, so the first college degree I completed was an AS in Electronics Technology from TSTC in Waco, TX.  Since that time I've also studied music, psychology, business management, theology, and worship. I have a BS degree in Organizational Management from Biola University and an MA degree in Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  In addition, I've held two certifications in Personal Training and two certifications in Fitness Nutrition Coaching and have followed the fitness industry for over 20 years.

I've spent over 25+ years working in the Electronics Computer Aided Design (ECAD) industry and overlapped that with 25+years in church ministry as a volunteer/bi-vocational/part-time/full-time worship/ministry pastor (yes, while going to school and raising a family at the same time.)

I enjoy all kinds of music. I'm easily bored - I don't like to stay in one genre of music very long. My playlist includes music from classical to country, to country rock, to contemporary worship, to adult contemporary, to rock, math rock and EDM, and even a couple of screamo and rap songs. Currently, my favorite performer is Colton Dixon.

The purpose of this web site is to allow me to share with you useful or inspirational information regarding leadership, physical fitness, music, and spiritual truth. It is my intent that, along the way, something I put here will bring a smile to your face and encouragement to your heart.

The MESSAGE page contains several studies and papers I've written. I hope you find them enjoyable and enlightening. Jim.
